Safety Is Part of How We Build.
At Mendo Group Limited, health and safety is an integral part of how we plan, manage and deliver our projects.
Across Construction, Civil and Steel, we are committed to maintaining safe, organised and well-managed workplaces for our employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors and project partners.
Our approach is based on proactive planning, identifying and managing risks before work begins, maintaining clear communication throughout the project, and ensuring our people have the appropriate training, competency and support to carry out their work safely.
Our Approach to Health & Safety
Site Safe NZ
We support the use of recognised industry health and safety training and practices, including Site Safe New Zealand programmes where applicable. We encourage our people and subcontractors to maintain appropriate site safety training for the work they undertake.
Trained & Competent People
We recognise that safe projects depend on capable people. Workers are expected to have the appropriate training, experience, qualifications and competency for the tasks they perform, with additional supervision provided where required.
Risk & Hazard Management
Hazards and critical risks are identified, assessed and managed throughout our projects. This includes pre-start planning, task-specific risk assessments, appropriate controls and ongoing review as site conditions and activities change.
Health & Safety Management System
Our Health & Safety Manual provides the framework for our approach to workplace safety, including responsibilities, risk management, incident reporting, emergency procedures, training, consultation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Site Inductions & Pre-Starts
Site-specific inductions help ensure everyone understands the project requirements, key risks, emergency procedures and site rules before commencing work. Regular pre-start meetings and toolbox talks keep safety front of mind as work progresses.
Clear Communication & Consultation
Good communication is essential to a safe workplace. We encourage open communication between management, employees, subcontractors and project partners so that hazards, concerns and changes in site conditions can be raised and addressed promptly.
Subcontractor Management
We expect subcontractors working on Mendo projects to meet appropriate health and safety standards and cooperate with our project-specific safety requirements, site procedures and reporting processes.
Plant, Equipment & PPE
Plant and equipment must be suitable for the work being undertaken and used by appropriately trained or authorised personnel. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required in accordance with site and task-specific requirements.
Incident & Near-Miss Reporting
We encourage the reporting of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions. Events are reviewed so that appropriate corrective actions can be taken and lessons can be shared across our operations.
Emergency Preparedness
Project sites maintain appropriate emergency procedures and arrangements so our teams understand what to do and who to contact should an emergency occur.
Continuous Improvement
Health and safety is an ongoing responsibility. We regularly review our practices, learn from our projects and look for opportunities to improve the way we manage risk and protect our people.
